Mr John Duroyaiye, Acting State Coordinator, National Identity Card Management Commission (NIMC), Lagos State, on Monday said that an average of 300 persons were registering daily in the state for the new national identity card.
Duroyaiye made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“Between Oct. and Nov., every working day of the week has been so eventful with at least 300 persons registered for the new national identity.
“Our main challenge is electricity. We run on generator daily in this office, throughout working hours,’’ Durojaiye said.
Some people who went for the registration said the exercise was far better than the last national identity programme.
Miss Izunwa Igwe, a Youth Corps member, said the exercise was fast, easy and within a conducive environment.
A civil servant, Mr Sunday Joshua, noted that the biometric would help to detect criminals in Nigeria and also assist the government in national planning.
Mrs Fameso Olaitan, a civil servant, said, “The only problem the commission has is the poor internet network, which slows down the registration exercise.
“The officers attend to people promptly. When the internet is fast, it takes about 10 minutes to register one person.” (NAN
