A former governor of Anambra state, Mr Peter Obi has urged Nigerians to
work together for peace which underscores the essence of Christ’s
resurrection on Easter Sunday.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Vice Presidential Candidate in the
2019 General elections urged Christians to imbibe the ideals of
perseverance, sacrifice and commitment to the will of God which
characterized the Lenten season.
He congratulated Christians and all Nigerians who are alive to witness
this year’s Easter.
He reminded them that “we are alive today only by God’s grace and favour
and not that we are in any way special before the almighty or better
than the dead.”
Obi reiterated the need for Nigerians to pray continually and work
towards peace, stability and progress. He noted that peace can only be
achieved when Nigerians from across the country imbibe peace by shunning
terrorism, banditry and other acts inimical to peaceful coexistence.
While wishing Nigerian Christians happy celebrations, Obi notes that the
lesson of Easter is for Christians to rededicate themselves to the
teachings of Christ which are peace, faith, hope and love.
Meanwhile he expressed deep pain over the death of Afenifere Spokeman,
Mr Yinka Odumakin.
Describing it as a personal loss in view of his closeness to late
Odumakin and his wife, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin.
“Yinka was one of the most committed change agents in Nigeria.
“I never met him or his wife without talking about how to bring about a
better Nigeria.
I feel pained by his death and my heart goes out to his family,
especially my dear sister, Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin,” Obi said.
Obi, while condoling with Afenefere and all those he left behind, said:
“I am sure he died a sad man, sadness not in terms of being regretful of
his personal life nor the extent of his accomplishments, but in terms of
being weighed down, as surely as all patriotic Nigerians are, by the
ugly development in Nigeria that has made life seem hopeless.”
Obi prayed to God to grant Yinka Odumakin eternal rest and his wife and
all loved ones the courage to bear the irreplaceable loss. #####
