The commercial city of Aba, Abia state was today shut as residents totally complied with the sit at home protest ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra ,(IPOB).
All the roads in the city were deserted by motorists and resident, business centres came under lock.

There was tension yesterday as Nnamdi kanu’s younger brother, Kanunta Kanu, issued a statement suspending the sit at home order over the ongoing NECO examinations . But ina  counter move, Media and Publicity Secretary,IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful, urged people to disregard the statement from Kanu’s brother, warning that anyone who flouts the sit at home order would get it hot.

However, it was partial compliance in the state capital, Umuahia, as keke operators were seen conveying passengers to various destinations. Government offices were open following an announcement by the state government warning workers against absenting themselves from work over the sit at home order.

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, had through the Secretary to the State Government,Barr. Chris Ezem, directed civil servants to be at their duty posts or risk sanction.

The markets in Aba including the Ariaria International, Ekeoha Shopping centre, `Eziukwu and New market were shut as no traderwas on sight.

There was substantial traffic in the Isi –gate,Okpara square , Mission Hill and Aba road parts of Umuahia, even as heavy security presence was mounted at the State headquarters of the Correctional Services and Police Command in Umuahia.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that the state government and the state police command had assured residents of their safety and asked them to go about their duties without fear. But this did not sway business owners in Aba while few shops were open along major roads in Umuahia.

In some other areas of Umuahia, people were seen playing football on the street.

A transport operator who preferred anonymity told Pointblanknews.com that motor unions complied with the sit at home order due to the fear of the attack by hoodlums, adding that shutting businesses with the increasing poverty in the country would adversely affect them.
