El-Rufai Raises Alarm Over Kaduna ADC Electoral Committee in Leaked Letter

A leaked handwritten letter purportedly written by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has raised fresh concerns about internal developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State, with the former governor warning that recent decisions could undermine the party’s unity and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The letter, dated May 20, 2026, was addressed to the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, and National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola. Copies were also reportedly sent to Kaduna State Chairman, Najaatu Mohammed, and all governorship aspirants in the state.

In the letter, El-Rufai expressed concern over the composition of the party’s electoral committee, arguing that it could compromise the credibility of the party’s governorship primary in Kaduna.

“I am writing to convey my concerns about steps been taken that could wreak havoc at all the efforts invested to unite our party in Kaduna State,” he wrote.

The former governor alleged that the committee was not sufficiently neutral, claiming its composition could affect the acceptance of the primary election outcome.

“I am afraid that the current constitution of the Electoral Committee, whose membership include a known agent of Uba Sani, and three others that represent one of my gubernatorial aspirants, would lead to non-acceptance of the results and handing over the election to Uba Sani.”

El-Rufai did not provide evidence to support the allegation. Governor Uba Sani has also not publicly responded to the claims.

The former governor further expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as his exclusion from key party decisions despite his role in building the coalition that brought stakeholders into the ADC.

“I am disappointed that in spite of my role in the coalition and efforts to build the party in Kaduna and ensure a level-playing field for all, my detention has led to my exclusion from all matters of Kaduna State and North-West that I am one of the leaders.”

He also complained about what he said was a lack of consultation by the party leadership.

“Even the courtesy of consultation as a leader has been denied.”

“The party appears quite comfortable in taking decisions, forming committees, etc., without the mere courtesy of consultation.”

According to El-Rufai, the situation could have wider political implications for the party in Kaduna State.

“This omission can affect the party in Kaduna.”

As a remedy, he urged the national leadership to dissolve the existing electoral committee and replace it with one that reflects the interests of all major stakeholders.

“I therefore recommend that current electoral committee be replaced by one that has equal representation of the 5 governorship aspirants, Senator Lawal Usman (Mr. La), and Senator Khalid.”

He also proposed a new chairman for the committee.

“The chairman I suggest should be Dr. Auwalu Anwar from Kano State.”

The authenticity of the leaked letter has not been independently verified. As of the time of filing this report, neither El-Rufai nor the national leadership of the ADC had publicly commented on the document.

If authenticated, the letter is expected to fuel debate over internal democracy, consultation, and leadership within the ADC as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
