Orubebe/Amaechi War: PDP Slams ACN, Says It’s An Extinct Party In Rivers State

by Our Reporter

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State has condemned the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, over its open support of the verbal attack launched against Governor Chibuike Amaechi by the Niger Delta Affairs minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe.

The party described the ACN’s posture as laughable, rotten in its gamut and replete with jealousy.

The PDP dismissed ACN’s call for the removal of Governor Amaechi from office saying such thrash could have stemmed from ACN’s condition of near-extinction in Rivers state.

In a statement in the Rivers State capital signed by its State Publicity Secretary, George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, the ruling party expressed shock at ACN’s dog-lap that since Orubebe was a Federal minister his lies against Amaechi amounted to truth.

Describing the assertion as illogical, mundane and frivolous, PDP averred that falsehood, no matter how presented to the public, would never subvert the truth. “That Satan told a lie would never turn it into truth,” Ukwuoma-Nwogba insisted, adding that ACN’s attempts to somersault truth would further alienate it from voter-sympathy.

It defended the Amaechi administration against allegations of improper utilisation of Rivers State resources stating that Governor Amaechi had not only embarked on visible projects but had saved about N38 billion so far through the monthly compulsory state savings. “Those savings expected to climb further by the time Governor Amaechi leaves office, are for possible rainy days. So, Governor Amaechi is not only working for today, but saving for tomorrow,” Ukwuoma-Nwogba added.

On ACN’s call for Governor Amaechi to defend himself of the allegations by Orubebe, Ukwuoma-Nwogba faulted both claims disputing that the proof of claim lies with the accuser. “It rests on ACN and Orubebe to substantiate their spurious claims against the governor,” Ukwuoma-Nwogba demanded.

While agreeing it was not worth the effort to engage the ACN in any form of conversation, the Rivers State PDP however reasoned posterity needed to be served the truth in a clean plate.

“Governor Amaechi has been a prudent manager of the resources of Rivers State which has endeared him to other states’ governors and as chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, has enjoyed the confidence of his colleague-governors. Back home, due to Governor Amaechi’s enviable leadership style, whatever remained as opposition political parties had voluntarily dissolved into the PDP.

“Rather than standing on its head, the ACN in Rivers State should ponder over its inability to win a single seat in all the elections so far conducted in the state and decide whether to continue halting between two opinions or make concrete choices. With its ongoing merger talks with other political parties, the PDP in Rivers State sympathises with the state ACN and its Publicity Secretary as their vestiges would soon be swallowed.”

PDP said it endorsed Governor Amaechi’s media team over the professional and robust manner it had handled the controversy generated by the Orubebe comments avowing that Governor Amaechi and the PDP would remain focused despite what it termed antics adopted by enemies of Rivers state to pervert development and enthrone god-fatherism and mediocrity.
