As the lobbies for a southern candidate for the 2023 presidential election intensifies, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike is currently in Kaduna to meet some northern political heavyweights ostensibly to discuss the possibility of running for the nation’s highest office.

Insider source told pointblanknews.com that Gov Wike also met with former Defence Minister, Gen. TY Danjuma with the aim of seeking his support and blessings for his ambition.

Wike, according to sources also met with a former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi to galvanize more support across the northern flank of the country.

“Apart from meeting the Gen. Danjuma and former Governor Makarfi separately to get their buy-in as he prepare to declare for the presidency, Gov Wike also met with the leadership and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

“Their discussions also centered on the 2023 presidential race and the critical role the state party will play in the emergence of a southern candidate which he intends to be.”

Pointblanknews.com cannot independently authenticate whether Gen. Danjuma and former Gov. Makarfi had pledged their support for Wike as at press time.

It was also gathered that Wike also used the meeting with Gen. Danjuma to sell the candidacy of his friend, Damian Dodo who is a lawyer and SAN, for the governorship of Taraba State.

Gov. Wike has recently been an advocate of a South South President in the coming general elections even lashing out against some northern politicians who have indicated interest in the nation’s highest office.
