INEC to deploy 200,000 BVAS for 2023 polls – Okoye

National Commissioner and Chairman,Voter Education Committee of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has disclosed  that the electoral umpire would deploy 200,000 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in the 2023 polls.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia, Abia state, Okoye who was in the state to monitor the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) explained that BVAS would be deployed in the 176,000 polling units across the country while the extra 24,000 would be kept as reserve.

He said; “We will have one BVAS reserve in every Registration Area Centre (RAC) to ensure immediate intervention in case of any failure.

“Our technical officers would be on standby at every RAC to attend to any technical issues that could arise during the polls.”

He added that INEC has the capacity to conduct free,fair and credible elections in 2023, stressing that the commission is set to surpass the successes recorded in the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections.

Okoye warned that INEC would not extend the July 31 deadline for the on going voter registration exercise.
