It is with great amusement that one can steadily see the lack of direction and misplacement of priorities being attributed to the current political dispensation in Nigeria. The current socio-economic and political downgrowth of the Nigerian state are all elements of poor overnance in the Country.
It is quite unfortunate for the Nigerian leadership, that hardly can anything good be said of its leadership style only that the mantra of change has instilled in an impoverished masses the hope for a better tomorrow. currently there are captivating captions that are fast drawing the criticisms of the masses. one of which is said to be the desire of the cuurent political dispensation to tap from a scarce resource of her country inorder to assist a needy country South-Sudan to off-set her debt crisis as can be sourced from the Punch newspaper. Now the big Question becomes, if Nigeria is actually poor as proclaimed by the president and are in a dire need for assistance in both finance and security towards calming the current Boko-haram insurgency that has bedeviled the Nigerian country and also towadrs the need for revival of her ailing economy and dwindling currency, then From where does her political leadership intend to get the necessary finance to help in the off-setting of the debt owed by South-Sudans or is Nigeria now playing the role of the World Bank or the International Monetary Funds.
Will Nigerians continue to suffer the scourging pains caused by a visionless leadership, that cannot treat its own wounds before treating the wounds of another, as further proclaimed by the Bible that “one should first discover the log in ones eye before attempting the removal of the particles in another’s eye”. Recently there were records of Nigeria being among the enlisted countries to tap from the generousity of a World banks donation of $16bn to help combat climate change which is being seen as a treat to the sustainance of environmental development, the truth of the matter being virtually such funds are greek gifts just as these multinational institutions are not Father Christmass neither are they societies of St Vincent de Paul (Catholic Institution) talk more of charity organisations. factually it is on record that what Nigeria owes, even generations to come cant offset such debts as can be seen in this statement made by the Vice president of the country explaning the current dedt owed by the Nigerian country.
The Vice President-elect, Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday said Nigeria’s local and foreign debts now stand at $60 billion. He said, “Local and international debt stands at US$60 billion. Our Debt servicing bill for 2015 is N953.6 billion, 21 per cent of our Budget. On account of severely dwindled resources, over two-thirds of the states in Nigeria owe salaries. Federal institutions are not in much better shape. Today, the nation borrows to fund recurrent expenditure.
Funds gotten from aiding countries are to be invested in various sectors of the Nigerian economy. the Nigerian State needs more of the production of Producer goods and little of the production in consumer goods as this increases the drive towards maturity of her economy and country. And for the fact that no country exists and can exist in isolation, no one in his his right thinking capacity should propel the need and the movement for total independence of her country in areas of foerign, trade and local relations but rather assistance are to be extended based on existing status or finacial capacities of her country, just as the latin phrase goes “Nemo dat quod non-habet” which reads, One cannot give what he does not have, which can be viewed in the movement towards the management of the Debt crisis that rocks South-Sudan
The current political leadership are adviced to steal a clue from most of her developed allies on the african continent and stop being intrumental towards the “underdeveloping of a developing and promising country as being chanted by the same countries that underdeveloped her and lay further credence to the popular addage which reads “he that goes-a borrowing goes-a sorrowing”
