Buhari Sacks EFCC Chair, Lamorde, Replaces Him With Magu, To Reopen Cold Cases

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim
Lamorde, has been fired. He has been swiftly replaced by Ibrahim Magu, a
top level official of the Economic and Governance Unit of the EFCC.

Magu had investigated high profile politicians such as Senate President
Bukola Saraki, James Ibori, Lucky Igbinedion but was allegedly victimized
for exposing some politicians considered “untouchable.”

The new EFCC Chairman is expected to reopen cases that have gathered dust
with the EFCC and reposition the agency.

Magu, until his appointment is a member of the procurement of hardware and
munitions in the Armed Forces from 2007 till now

Lamorde, has been the EFCC chair since 2011.

Magu is remembered as a no-nonsense investigator of the commission at its
inception.

He was removed along with several other key officials by Farida Waziri
when she became chairman in 2008.

last night arrested a former official of the Commission, Chief
Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Magu.

Magu was allegedly removed because he spearheaded the investigation that
nailed some former governors in the country during the former Presidents
Olusegun Obasanjo and Musa Yar’Adua Governments.

Specifically, on August 5 2008, Ibrahim Magu was arrested in connection
with documents in his possession believed to be related to the EFCC’s
investigations into corruption at various levels of government.

Notable among those Magu investigated were current Senate President,
Bukola Saraki, James Ibori and Lucky Igbinedion.
