Embattled Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly Hon. Abdullahi Bello Wednesday morning turned in his letter of resignation.
The letter conveying Bello’s resignation was read on the floor of the House by his erstwhile deputy, Oma Ebiji, who managed to retain his seat.
Hon. Momoh Jimoh Lawal, whose election had been enmeshed in controversy, was thereafter unanimously elected speaker.
Bello and other principal officers of the state legislature were in early October removed from office by law makers in what was believed to be the anti-climax of political intrigues in the state.
However, no sooner had the officers been reportedly removed than another bout of crisis hit the state. The ousted leadership refused to leave faulting the process of their removal.
The ousted legislators took their case to the House of Representatives which set up a 9-man panel to mediate in the crisis.
Headed by the House deputy Whip Hon. Ahmed Mohammed, the committee ran into a credibility storm when it made certain pronouncements, including sealing the Assembly.
