President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed Dr. Suleiman Dikko the new Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
A statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim said the appointment was with immediate effect.
Very little is known of Dr. Dikko. He was until the appointment chairman, Katsina State Basic Education Board.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Dikko was nominated by his state governor, Ibrahim Shema.
The Katsina State governor, checks revealed, had convinced President Jonathan that Dikko was a candidate of the family of the latter’s late boss, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Pointblanknews.com however gathered that Dikko is a relation of the governor, not Yar’Adua.
His appointment is coming 14 months after Dr. Ahmed Modibbo Mohammed left office amidst allegations of missing billions of Naira of the commission.
Pointblanknews.com also gathered that Modibbo may have had a hand in Dikko’s appointment, as he was particularly close to Governor Shema.
Under Modibbo, UBEC handed Shema the good governance award thrice. The award is worth billions of Naira.
