#RiversRerun: INEC Cancels Two More Local Govt Over Violence, Ballot Snatching

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, on Sunday announced

the cancellation of elections in two more local  government areas in
Saturday’s rerun polls in Rivers state.

It specifically cites alleged irregularities such as violence, snatching
of ballot box, non compliance to electoral law as reasons for the
cancellation.

The two affected council areas according to the state Resident Electoral
Commissioner, REC Elder Aneide Ikoiwak are Etche and Asaritoru.

Also, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it has
begun the auditing of personnel and materials sent into the field for the
Rivers State rerun election held yesterday  (Saturday) March 19th, 2019.

A statement issued by the spokesman of INEC in Rivers state, Tonia Nwobia,
on Sunday, said apart from carry out the personnel and material auditing,
the commission, will also meet with critical stakeholders before
announcing a new date for the election in the suspended council areas.

The local government areas where election were cancelled are now 8. Those
earlier cancelled are Gokana, Khana, Andoni and Bonny.
