The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has officially confirmed former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Malami emerged as the party’s flag bearer following the conclusion of the ADC’s internal selection process in the state, paving the way for his bid to contest for the Kebbi State Government House in 2027.
The development positions the former minister at the forefront of the ADC’s political strategy in Kebbi as the party intensifies efforts to strengthen its grassroots structures and expand its influence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), served as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Since leaving office, he has remained active in national political conversations, particularly on issues relating to governance, constitutional matters, and reforms within the justice sector.
The former minister has, however, faced corruption allegations in the past and is currently on bail in connection with an ongoing legal matter.
Party stakeholders in Kebbi are expected to rally behind his candidacy as the ADC prepares for what is likely to be a highly competitive governorship contest in the state.
