Democracy Day: Leadership failure, bane of Nigeria progress – Obi

by Our Reporter
Mr Peter Obi, Vice Presidential Candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
in the last elections, says the accumulated Nigerian leadership failure was the major challenge facing the country’s progress, as Nigeria celebrated her democracy day.

Obi in Awka, Anambra state capital on Friday, reminded Nigerians that democracy remained the bedrock on which the country was built.

He urged all to hold on to every democratic ideal that would push the country forward in spite of so many challenges facing the nation.

He encouraged Nigerians to strive towards achieving better democratic ideals so that the country will reap greater dividends of democracy.

“The democracy Nigeria enjoys today did not come on a platter of gold, but regretted that not much have been achieved in the country due to accumulated years of leadership failure,” Obi affirmed.

He said the major challenge was leaders sacrificing and focusing on the future, especially those things that made other countries to progress.

He said the COVID – 19 pandemics presented Nigeria with another opportunity to look inwards.

“Today, we are presented with another opportunity to rejoice, but the truth is that there is not much to be happy for. All we need is inward introspection about the ills of the country and the resolve to mend our ways for the benefit of our children.

“Each one of us has a role to play in pursuing our democratic ideals so as to reap the maximum dividends of democracy. We are all enjoined to contribute individually and collectively to the sustenance of our democracy.” he said.
