Governor Simon Lalong, of Plateau state has said his administration will
restore permanent peace in the state through carnival exhibitions, as a
means of bringing back major investors who fled the state following to
protracted civil unrest.
The governor stated this Wednesday in Jos, Plateau state at the official
unveiling of the logo for in coming “Jos carnival” maiden edition.
Earlier, commissioner for Tourism and Hospitality, in Plateau state Peter
Mwatkon, in an address had noted that the prolong civil unrest had sent
parking most investors from the state.
“We are all aware, Plateau state was bedeviled by crisis for the past 15
years, but the present administration has been able to restore peace which
we now enjoy. As such, there is need to tell the whole world that Plateau
is now quite peaceful. To this end, the carnival project therefore, has the
potential to impact positively on the image of Plateau state, and in turn,
restore the confidence of investors.”
Mr. Mwatkon said the Plateau state government has made necessary plans the
restore lost glory of the state through carnival exhibitions, schedule for
middle of April this year.
It is on record that about 80 percent of tourism sites within the state
including major local manufacturing companies had relocated from Plateau
state due to the unfortunate riots, killing citizens in dozen.
A Tourism expert from the university of Jos, a professor in the department
of Theatre and communication John Ilah, who spoke at the event advised the
government of Plateau state to revival, rebuild tourism sites across the
state; and restructure tourism subsector.
