Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Monday said that his administration would
do everything possible to stamp out cultism and kidnapping in the state.
He spoke when he visited the state headquarters of the Department of State
Security Services (DSS) at its Headquarters in Owerri.
The governor said among other things, anti-cult groups would be formed in
all the schools in the state to nip cult activities in the bud.
“We are going to work in collaboration with the DSS and other security
agencies in the state to fight kidnapping and cultism.
“I want to appreciate the way and manner in which the command has so far
conducted itself.
“I want to also assure you that this administration will do all within its
power to encourage you in the discharge of your duties effectively,’’ he
said.
Earlier, the Director of State Security Services in the state, Mr Francis
Ejiofor, thanked the governor for the visit and for his continued support
to the command.
He said that security was essential for the growth and development of the
state.
Ejiofor commended the “Rescue Mission” of the present administration,
saying, it has done so much in infrastructure development in the state.
He expressed the willingness of his officers and men of the service to
fight crime in the state.
The director said the command had arrested three students of Emmanuel
College, Owerri for their involvement in cultism.
He said they had also rescued kidnapped victims in the month of May, while
the suspects were still in detention, pending the completion of their
investigation.
The DSS also expressed appreciation to the Judiciary for their cooperation
in prosecuting criminal cases in the state and urged them not to relent.
