Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Deputy Governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2026 governorship election, declaring that the APC’s chances of victory are “100 percent.”
Omisore made the announcement on Tuesday at the APC state secretariat along Osogbo/Gbongan Road, Osogbo, where he met with party executives and supporters to formally declare his ambition. The declaration, which drew members and volunteers from across the state, marked the formal launch of what he described as his “rescue mission” to reclaim Osun for the APC.
Addressing party faithful, he expressed confidence in his popularity within the party and his ability to lead the APC to victory.
“I am expecting Osun people to vote for the APC en masse come August 8, 2026. This gathering demonstrates the preparedness of our core members and our readiness to ensure I become the party’s candidate by God’s grace in December,” he said.
“APC’s chance in 2026 is 100 percent. These are volunteers from all parts of the state, showing internal strength as we prepare for the primaries. By God’s grace, I shall emerge victorious and deliver an APC government next year,” Omisore declared.
He described his campaign as a mission to restore good governance, noting that his focus would be on effective leadership, educational advancement, agricultural growth, infrastructural renewal, and rural development.
“Government is not a dancing matter; it’s a serious business that must be handled by serious people,” he said pointedly.
Additionally, the Coordinator of the Omisore Rescue Mission, Hon. Israel Famurewa, stated that the call for Omisore to join the race originated from APC members across all wards in the state.
“The people here today are APC members from every ward in Osun. They urged Omisore to contest because he is the most experienced among the aspirants and has the capacity to deliver victory for the APC,” Famurewa noted.
However, the incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke will be a hard nut to crack for Senator Omisore. Despite his political experience and grassroots network, Adeleke’s incumbency, populist appeal, and widespread support base across the state give him strong leverage.
His administration’s focus on infrastructure renewal, workers’ welfare, and prompt salary payments has consolidated public goodwill. Adeleke’s vibrant personality and connection with youth and entertainment circles also boost his image beyond politics. Backed by the ruling PDP structure and loyal party machinery, defeating him will demand extraordinary strategy, unity, and political momentum from the opposition APC.
