“You came, you saw, and you conquered,” veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo wrote in an emotional tribute to late actor Alex Ekubo, whose death was announced by his family on Tuesday.
Ekubo’s family disclosed that the actor died after a prolonged battle with cancer, a revelation that has since triggered an outpouring of grief and tributes from fans, colleagues and prominent Nigerians.
In a heartfelt message shared on Facebook and X, Mofe-Damijo said life can sometimes feel “unreal,” adding that he was still struggling to process the sad news.
“Life is not only fickle, it can also feel unreal. Even as I type this, I still struggle to fully process it, and it deeply saddens me to hear this news,” he wrote.
The veteran actor described the late movie star as “a truly great soul,” while celebrating the life he lived and the legacy he left behind.
“Rest in peace to a truly great soul. You came, you saw, and you conquered. We are proud of the life you lived, the journey you embraced, and the legacy you leave behind. Sleep well, our dear Alex,” he added.
Since the announcement of his death, tributes have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues and notable Nigerians, including human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong and Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters.
Many social media users have continued to express grief over the actor’s death, describing him as talented, vibrant and impactful during his lifetime.
