A political activist, Nze Ebubeagu Ekenulo has accused aides of Senator Hope Uzodinma of manhandling him at the venue of the recent public hearing on constitution amendment for Nkwerre/ Nwangele/Njaba/ Isu federal constituency of Imo state.
According to Ekenulo, Chinasa Nwaneri, One Barrister Leo and another man identified as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the senator ordered him out of the hall and attempted forcing him into a waiting in a bid to take him to an unknown destination.
The activist said but for the efforts of the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) for Isu and Nkwerre, he would not have been alive to tell the story.
Ekenulo stated that he arrived the venue of the public hearing at Nkwerre country club in the company of Chief Ethelbert Ukonu and John Njoku and sat down after exchanging pleasantries with some dignitaries.
Shortly after taking his seat, he saw Nwaneri pointing at him in the company of Barr. Leo and Uzodinma’s CSO. He said Barr. Leo, the CSO and mobile policeman approached him and demanded he followed them.
I resisted until John Njoku urged me to follow them. They tore my safari suit and tried forcing me into a private vehicle before the DPO for Isu intervened. The DPO rescued me and handed me over to his counterpart for Nkwerre who took me to Nkwerre Police station. One Barr. Amasiama insisted that I must be detained, but the policemen at the station said it would be over their dead body since they refused to state my offence,â€Ekenulo lamented.
He continued: “the policemen asked me to stay with them insisting that they would never bow to this intimidation. Thereafter, Barr.
Amasiama returned with a formal complaint that I was fighting and disrupting the public hearing. Later, the DPO informed me that he has been asked by the Commissioner of Police to bring me to Owerri. It is there that I was shown a copy of a newspaper which reported a group alleging that I was attacking Senator Uzodinma,†the activist stated.
When contacted, Nwaneri urged Ekenulo to report them to any quarter if he is sure of what is saying.
Ekenulo , who I don’t recognize as an Nze wanted to fleece my boss but when he did not succeed, he resorted to calling him names.
If he said we wanted to kidnap him, why didn’t the police rescue him and arrest us?
He threatened not to respond again to any issue raised by Ekenulo concerning the senator.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that Ekenulo has been a long standing critic of the senator.
As at press time, Uzodinma who represents Imo West senatorial zone could not be reached on the development.
