Taraba CPC Sacks Chairman, Treasurer Over Alleged Fraud

by Our Reporter

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Taraba, on Monday in Jalingo, sacked its Chairman, Alhaji Uba Ahmed, and Treasurer, Ahmed Laddo, for alleged misappropriation of funds and anti-party activities.

The Chairman of the Committee set up by the CPC to investigate the duo, Alhaji Sanusi Maigari, said six witnesses testified that they gave bribe to Ahmed and Laddo.

“Six councillorship aspirants in the April councils’ elections testified before us that the chairman and the treasurer requested for N30, 000 from each of them for clearance before the elections,” he explained.

He said the chairman connived with non-party members to dent the image of the CPC by appointing three persons to contest for the chairman of Yorro Local Government without due process.

Maigari said the refusal of the duo to appear before the committee to clear their names in spite of three invitations, was enough to “prove that they were guilty of wrong doings.”

The Acting Chairman of the party and member representing Jalingo1 in the House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Imam, commended the committee for submitting its report timely.

He called on other members of the party to cooperate with him pending the election of a substantive chairman.

When contacted, the embattled chairman declined to comment on his removal. (NAN)
