President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, and the Senate have extended heartfelt condolences to the Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Abba Moro, over the tragic deaths of his son and grandson.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the painful loss, describing it as a devastating tragedy no parent should experience.
He urged the bereaved family to take solace in the positive impact the deceased made during their short lives.
“The President commiserates with Senator Moro, his family, and associates, praying that God grants them the strength to bear this irreparable loss and rest the souls of the departed in perfect peace,” the statement read in part.
At the plenary on Tuesday, the Senate, presided over by its President, Godswill Akpabio, paid tribute to Senator Moro and observed a minute of silence in honour of the deceased.
Akpabio described the loss as heartbreaking and directed that senators visit Senator Moro’s residence to condole with him and his family.
Findings revealed that Senator Moro’s son, Victor Moro, recently returned from his studies in Turkey  to participate in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. He died in a car crash in Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Tragically, the Senator had buried his grandson, Abba Moro Jr., barely 48 hours earlier.
Governor Hyacinth Alia described the incidents as “shocking and monumental losses,” urging the bereaved family to find comfort in faith and the love of those around them.
Messages of sympathy have continued to pour in from colleagues, political leaders, and constituents, who described the double tragedy as both a personal and communal loss of immense proportions.
