PRESS RELEASE
WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA DEMAND INTERNATIONAL PRESSURE AGAINST PRESIDENT
BUHARI AND REJECT THE 2019 FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA PRESIDENTIAL
ELECTION OUTCOMEAS BEING FRAUDULENT AND A VIOLATION OF THE WILL OF THE
NIGERIAN PEOPLE AND INTERNATIONAL LAW
WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA is an NGO grassroots movement in the Federal
Republic of Nigeria based upon the principles that the common man has the
capacity and power to change the system for the better, through democratic
processes and advocate for a new nation based on the principles of
democracy, equity, and social justice for all regardless of race,
religion, ethnicity, or gender.
WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA strongly condemns the illegal, corrupt and
fraudulent electoral practices of Pres. Buhari and his associates and
categorically reject the declaration of victory by Pres. Buhari as not
being legitimate or reflective of the will of the People of Nigeria. We
also condemn the violence, intimidation, oppression and threats inflicted
upon the voters of Nigeria.
WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA rejects the declaration of the Independent
National Election Committee as regards Buhari’s fraudulent victory and we
ask that all Nations join us in the condemnation of Pres. Buhari, his
political party the All People’s Congress, and others who have worked
together to steal the elections from the People of Nigeria and circumvent
their rightful ballot-box choices.
WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA has spearheaded initiatives to galvanize
international support for a fair and legitimate process to determine the
winner of the February 23, 2019, Nigerian Presidential Election.
Overwhelming credible evidence demonstrates fraud, intimidation, violence,
and manipulation tainted the first results reported by the Muhammadu
Buhari administration.
Among other things, WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA has visited Washington DC in
the United States of America (USA), London in the United Kingdom (U.K.)
and the European Union (EU) in Brussels Belgium in late January and early
February 2019.
The team visited House and Senate members of the United States Congress,
met with the United States State Department, and delivered a letter to
President Donald Trump. The team then traveled to the United Nations in
New York to submit a letter to Acting United States Ambassador to the
United Nations, the Honorable Mr. Anthony Cohen.
The WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA envoys next journeyed to London, U.K. to
deliver letters to British Prime Minister, The Right Honorable Miss
Theresa May at No. 10 Downing Street, and, to Chatham House and the Office
of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
Lastly, the team delivered a letter to the Secretary General of the
European Union Parliament.
The uniform message was the illegitimacy of the pre-planned Buhari
victory; President Buhari’s long planning for electoral fraud, violence,
and intimidation, and the urgency of international action to prevent
Buhari from profiting from his own electoral crimes.
Even before the balloting began, WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA urged preventive
measures to deter President Buhari. United States Secretary of State Mike
Pompeo was urged to follow the steps of predecessor John Kerry in 2015 and
visit Nigeria to warn both major candidates that election violence would
be unacceptable to the international community. Although the visit did
not happen, the efforts of WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA were, in part,
responsible for a personal telephone call from Sec. Pompeo to both
President Buhari and to the PDP candidate former Vice President Atiku
Abubakar, GCON, urging a fair, transparent and peaceful election.
Unfortunately, Pres. Buhari chose to ignore the admonitions from the U.S.
Secretary of State and flouted the international criminal rules that
prohibit electoral violence, coercion and corruption.
The need to deter Buhari from electoral malpractices was self-evident
during the run-up to the February 2019 voting. His trademark is scorn for
the rule of law. In 1984, the General Buhari executed a military coup
against the democratically elected civilian government. Since his
inauguration in 2015, President Buhari has presided over and often
encouraged the slaughter of thousands of innocent, peace-loving
Christians, Shi’ite Muslims, farmers, and others with impunity. He has
turned the judicial and legislative branches into appendages of the
executive, including chronic violations of judicial decrees. He has
removed and prosecuted the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court without due
process because fearful of an adverse ruling in litigation challenging his
pre-planned fraudulent electoral victory. He also brandished the army and
police to intimidate the populace to ensure his corrupt election.
Buhari’s anemic approval ratings spawned his lawless RIG TO WIN strategy.
WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA is accordingly energized to thwart his nefarious
designs to cheat the Nigerian People of self-determination and continue to
carry the fight forward to correct the injustice of President Buhari’s
corrupt election. The efforts of WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA frighten the
Buhari administration.
His minister of information Mr. Lai Mohammed criticized the trip. Governor
El-Rufai, a top Buhari supporter issued a death threat to anyone from
outside Nigeria that expressed concern about Nigerian electoral violence
or fraud.
Despite the unwearied labors of WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA, the
international community idled while Buhari executed his RIG TO WIN
lawlessness.
As WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA predicted, Buhari is now slaughtering people
in Rivers State, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Sokoto and other states with impunity.
The Niger Delta is in flames.
The Army, Navy, Air Force and the police are shooting innocent citizens in
Abonnema, Ogoni, Ahoada in Rivers State, as well as in Igboland and
throughout the Middle Belt.
President Buhari is exterminating the Christians in Southern Kaduna.
The Middle Belt people are under siege and being slaughtered on a daily
basis.
The forces of President Buhari are using the 2019 Presidential Election as
an excuse to murder the people of Rivers State who are being shot like
dogs and also slaughtered in their homeland states by federal troops.
Several state elections have been declared inconclusive to enable
President Buhari to club them into submission.
For these reasons and more of the same, WE THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA
respectfully urges:
*The United Nations Security Council place Nigeria on a watch list pending
the outcome of legal challenges to Buhari’s election.
*The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court open an
investigation of Buhari and his Army Chief of Staff, General Tukur Yusuf
Buratai, along with his agents and cronies such as Minister of Transport
Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Mr. Asita Honor Asita, Mr. Tony Cole and
numerous others for crimes against humanity perpetrated in connection with
the February and March 2019 election in Rivers State and elsewhere.
*The United States House of Representatives and Senate pass a joint
resolution condemning Buhari’s electoral malpractices and violence and
withhold recognition of any winner of the February balloting until the
legal processes for challenging Pres. Buhari’s election have run their
course.
*President Trump’s listing of Buhari and his principal deputies as chronic
violators of internationally recognized fundamental human rights under the
Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act and denying them visas
and freezing American assets.
*The immediate withdrawal of all Nigerian military personnel from Rivers
State and similarly situated states.
*The immediate arrest and/or evacuation of all murderous herdsmen
terrorists from the Middle Belt and cessation of all of their acts of
terror, murder, burning of homes and rapes of the innocent farmers and
citizens of the Middle Belt.
*A United Nations Security Council international arms embargo on Nigeria
pending the outcome of legal challenges to Buhari’s election.
*Release of the results of all state elections declared inconclusive by
Buhari.
Idleness in the face of electoral injustice is not an option for WE THE
PEOPLE OF NIGERIA.
