Few hours to the National Assembly polls, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended the Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Abia North senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu over alleged anti-party activities.
In the letter dated February 21, Kalu was suspended for acts of disobedience and gross anti-party activities and his suspension is to be implemented with immediate effect.
Kalu,who is a former Governor of Abia state has been at with the leadership of Abia APC which heightened since the emergence of Chief Ikechi Emenike as the governorship candidate of the party in the state
The party had accused Kalu of undermining the APC in the state and supporting the governorship ambition of his younger brother,Mr. Mascot Uzor Kalu who is the flag bearer of the Action Peoples Party,(APP).
In the suspension letter signed by the Chairman of the Abia APC Disciplinary Committee, Paul Nwabuisi; State Secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah and the State Chairman, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, said Kalu has remained unrepentant and without remorse despite several warnings against the party.
The party further explained that Kalu’s suspension came after thorough investigations and recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee set up by his Igbere Ward A chapter, Bende Local Government Area of the party
It added that Kalu’s suspension was in consonance with Article 21B(i-v) of the APC Constitution, which he violated.
“You are hereby suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
Recall that Kalu had in an interview on Arise Television stated that Emenike has never informed him that he is running for the governorship position of the state. He insisted that as a former governor of the state, Emenike ought to have informed him about his ambition.
He accused Emenike of campaigning against him as the senatorial candidate of the APC for Abia North district and vowed not to support his governorship ambition.
On the governorship ambition of his younger brother,Kalu said he is fit and well qualified to lead the state ,having served as a former Chief of staff in the state.
