The House of Representatives has extended its heartfelt Easter greetings to Christian faithful across Nigeria as they observe this sacred season, a pivotal time in the Christian faith.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the House Spokesman, Akin Rotimi, the Green Chamber described Easter as an event that “serves as a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of sacrifice, values that resonate beyond religious divides and speak to the collective spirit of humanity.”
It further reads, “As Nigerians come together to mark this solemn occasion, the House of Representatives calls on citizens, irrespective of their faith, to draw inspiration from the profound messages embedded in the Easter story. The season embodies key values, love, forgiveness, compassion, sacrifice, and affirms the belief that light will triumph over darkness.
“In this defining moment of the nation’s journey, amidst both challenges and great promise, the House emphasizes the importance of unity and shared responsibility.
“The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, extends warm congratulations to Christians on the successful completion of Lent and calls on all Nigerians to view this season as a renewed call for sacrifice, love, and righteousness.
“While the government holds the responsibility of ensuring the safety and welfare of our citizens, it is equally important for us, as individuals, to reflect the teachings of Christ, obedience to authority, and being our brother’s keeper,” Speaker Tajudeen remarked.
He added, “As Christians across the nation mark Easter, I send my best wishes for peace and renewed strength. I urge all Nigerians to embrace the spirit of unity and shared responsibility. Let us unite in our efforts to build a just, secure, and inclusive Nigeria for both present and future generations.”
According to the statement, “The 10th Assembly of the House reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the core principles that define Easter: justice, equity, and the relentless pursuit of a Nigeria where every citizen, irrespective of origin, religion, or creed, can live with dignity, safety, and hope.
“As families gather in worship and reflection, the House hopes this Easter season will rekindle joy in homes across the nation, inspire leadership that genuinely serves, and renew our collective faith in a Nigeria rooted in peace, equity, and shared prosperity.”
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, also called on all Nigerians to embrace the selfless love and sacrifice exemplified by Jesus Christ as the nation celebrates the 2025 Easter season.
In a statement issued to commemorate this significant occasion, the Deputy Speaker emphasized Christ’s teachings of compassion, forgiveness, and kindness, urging citizens to reflect these virtues in their daily lives. He stated that Christ’s ultimate sacrifice and resurrection symbolize hope, redemption, and the potential for renewal.
“I urge Nigerians to emulate the love, compassion, and kindness that Christ demonstrated throughout His life, as we celebrate Easter, let us take this time to pray for the unity, peace, and prosperity of our nation.” Kalu urged.
He expressed optimism that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria will continue on its path to progress. “May this Easter bring joy, peace, and unity to our country, and may Nigeria be blessed with prosperity and stability,” he concluded.
