President Bola Tinubu has pledged to deploy advanced technology, including drones and satellite surveillance, to reclaim Nigeria’s forests from terrorists and bandits.
He assured northern leaders and elders of his administration’s commitment to defeating terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping by securing ungoverned spaces across the country.
Speaking at a state dinner in Katsina on Friday night, Tinubu emphasized a national approach to security that involves collaboration with state and local governments. “We will invest more in technology and take over the forests,” he stated.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, detailed these remarks in a statement titled ‘We will secure our forests and enhance surveillance in the Northwest, President Tinubu assures in Katsina’.
The Northwest region has suffered from over a decade of relentless terrorist activity.
Tinubu’s strategy focuses on utilizing advanced surveillance and technology to improve intelligence gathering, monitoring, and operational efficiency. The use of technology is seen as crucial for improving early threat detection and response, and for enhancing the Nigerian military’s capabilities in areas out of reach of ground forces.
