Anambra To Spend N16.8bn On Roads, Others

The Anambra Government has approved the award of contracts of N16.8 billion for the construction of four roads, a shopping mall and hotel in parts of the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe-Martin Uzodike, announced the approval in Awka on Wednesday after the State Executive Council meeting.

Uzodike explained that the construction of Amansea-Ndiukwenu-Awa-Ufuma 27Km road would cost N8.6 billion, adding that the contract would last two years.

He said that the contract for construction of Okpuno-Urum-Amanuke-Achalla 17 km road was awarded for N2 billion with a completion period of 12 months.

The commissioner also said the contract for the construction of the 2. 21km Federal Government College, Nise, road and the 2.85km Akabo-Mbaukwu Haba River-Agulu road was N1.3 billion.

He said the contract had a completion period of 16 months.

“The State Executive Council also gave approval for the payment of the repairs of the eroded portions of the Onitsha-Atani- Osamala-Oguikpele road at the sum of N905.1million,” Uzodike said.

He said that the council also approved N1.9 billion for the building of Ikenga Shopping Mall and infrastructure in Awka with a completion time of 12 months.

Uzodike also said that the council approved the award of contract for the construction of Agulu Lake Hotel and infrastructure, estimated at N1.8 billion.

He said the contract was expected to be executed in nine months.

He said the government would buy 450 new vehicles to be distributed to all public secondary schools as well as those returned to churches which owned them.

“Government will distribute 20 computer sets to every public and church secondary school, while 10 computers will be given to every public and returned church primary school,” Uzodike added.

He said that government had set aside N500,000 for the building of a library in every public secondary school.

“A minimum of N500,000 is to be released by the state government for the construction of laboratories in every secondary school in the state,’’ Uzodike said.

He added that N500,000 would be given to each secondary school for the promotion of sports, while each primary school would get N300,000 for the same purpose.
