The Lagos State Police Command has successfully arrested Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso, a notorious gang leader and assassin. The arrest, which took place on Friday, June 20, 2025, was the culmination of a covert operation dubbed Silence, Speed and Surprise.
Akinwande, 44, was apprehended at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State, after evading capture for several years. He is suspected of orchestrating a decade-long spree of violent crimes across Lagos, including murder, armed robberies, kidnappings, and cult-related killings, with a particular focus on the Mushin area.
This marks Akinwande’s second arrest. He was previously taken into custody in 2016 by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in connection with multiple gang-related killings. During that earlier arrest, he was implicated in the deaths of a 29-year-old trader and a 9-year-old girl, among others.
Sources at the time also connected him to violent clashes involving the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) that date back to 2009. Further details regarding the recovery of weapons and passports are expected to be released by the police command.
