The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed profound grief over the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as a hero of political integrity.
Late Sen. Ewhrudjakpo, died on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the age of 60, after collapsing suddenly in his office at the Government House in Yenagoa around 1:30 p.m. He was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, with multiple reports indicating a suspected cardiac-related medical emergency as the likely cause, though no official confirmation has been issued by the state government.
In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party said the news came as a “deep shock” to the National Working Committee under the leadership of Ambassador Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), and to party members nationwide, particularly in Bayelsa State.
Describing the late deputy governor as “a trusted and faithful party man,” the PDP praised him as one of the rare politicians who practised politics with unwavering principle.
“While alive, Senator Ewhrudjakpo was an honest and consistent politician who believed in and practised politics with principle. He was a person of conviction, not convenience; a leader whose life was anchored on belief, integrity, and strength of character,” the statement read.
The party called him “a hero of political integrity” and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Extending its sympathies, the PDP said: “We express our heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Bayelsa State on this painful and irreparable loss.”
