Human rights activist and the publisher of SaharaReporters Omoyele Sowore has secured the presidential ticket of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general election.
Sowore secured the ticket on Tuesday after a motion for his adoption as consensus candidate of the party was moved and affirmed.
Speaking to the media, Sowore vowed to tackle poverty in the country through new economic models like green, purple, orange and blue economy to replace the “failed black economy” that have pauperised the nation, and work towards models that empower women, the widows and physically challenged citizens by engineering access to equal wealth across gender.
“When we talk about empowering them, we are not talking about distribution of palliatives, we are talking about legitimate policy positions that allow them to get jobs,” he said.
He also vowed to tackle insecurity through technology criticising a situation where people are kidnapped for weeks on Nigerian soil without traces.
He also announced that the AAC and the #RevolutionNow movement would declare a “Nationwide State of Resistance” on August 5 against tyranny, oppression, corruption, exploitation, and the destruction of Nigeria’s future, maintaining that the struggle must continue until the masses win the victory.
While accepting his nomination in front of hundreds of supporters, who packed the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development in Abuja, he berated the incumbent administration for the misgovernance in the country.
“Those who steal our future, we would steal your freedom,” he said.
“Since I was born I have never enjoyed Nigeria, and I don’t know about anybody here, except the band of thieves who are looting the national treasury; we are going to bring about a brand new Nigeria,” he added.
Speaking also, the party’s new national chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe, said the AAC was a party for people with ideological conviction.
Apart from Sowore, candidates of the party for governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives positions nationwide in 2027 were also handed their flags.
