The lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor, has alleged threat to his life over his criticism of the claims in the book on the Aburi Accord by former Head of State Yakubu Gowon.
According to Ejimakor, a certain Danbature, who claims to be the president of “Arewa Youths” made a video threatening him for his critique of the book, which he said was within his constitutional right to freedom of expression.
Similarly, the American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), in a statement, unequivocally condemns the reckless and dangerous comments by the said Danbature.
In a statement signed by the president and secretary of AVID, Dr Sylvester Onyia and Dr Godson Obiagwu, respectively, called on the security agencies to fish out the individual behind the video threat by the name “Danbature”.
“These threats, contained in a widely circulated video, stem from Barrister Ejimakor’s legitimate criticism of statements made by General Yakubu Gowon regarding Biafra, the Aburi Accord, and General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in his recently published book.” They said in the statement.
“We demand that Mr. Danbature immediately retract that video and cease and desist from any plot or intention to cause harm to Barrister Ejimakor. Let him be warned that any unholy action against Barrister Ejimakor will attract swift and decisive countervailing consequences.
“If Danbature is indeed the authentic President of Arewa Youths as he claims, we challenge him to publicly disclose his full name and verifiable contact details rather than hiding behind a singular name and an amateur to issue threats.
“The American Veterans of Igbo Descent stands firmly with Barrister Aloy Ejimakor and will not tolerate any attempt to intimidate or silence legitimate voices exercising their constitutional rights to free speech.”
