The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until November 12 for the arraignment of two women accused of falsely alleging that another woman killed her husband’s first wife.
The defendants, Nkiru Ulasi and Ogechukwu Angela, were charged by the Inspector-General of Police’s Directorate of Legal Services, Zone 7 Police Headquarters, over the alleged accusation against Mrs Uju Akubueze.
When the matter came up on Wednesday, the defendants were absent from court, prompting the presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, to adjourn the case.
The prosecuting counsel, John Ijagbemi, and defence lawyer, Pascal Nnaji, were present in court.
In the three-count charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/511/2026, the defendants were accused of offences bordering on cyberbullying, defamation, threats, false information and cyberstalking.
The prosecution alleged that between March and April 2026, the defendants used their WhatsApp and TikTok platforms to circulate videos, pictures and WhatsApp conversations containing false information about Akubueze.
They were also alleged to have deliberately and intentionally published the materials at different dates and times with the aim of spreading misinformation about her.
The prosecution said the defendants knew the information to be false.
The alleged offences were said to contravene Section 24(1)(a) and (b), and Section 24(2)(a) and (c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024, and to be punishable under Section 24(2)(i) and (ii) of the Act.
