Ogbuewu Behind My Illegal Impeachment – Ebonyi Apga Chairman

by Our Reporter

The Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Jerry Obasi has accused the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state, Ambassador Frank Ogbuewu of sponsoring a faction of the party to impeach him, describing the exercise as an illegality. Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital, Obasi said those behind the plot are dissidents and non-members of the party. He alleged that their plan is to destabilize APGA, so that the party would fail in the council polls.

They are same people who were behind the dismal performance of the party in the last elections, having sold out to our opponents. œWe will continue to fight on as a political party and support Umeh and the National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, notwithstanding the disgruntled elements™ attempts to destabilize the party ahead of the council polls and the 2015 general elections. It would be recalled that some factional members of the party had at the weekend, announced Obasi’s impeachment and declared Mr. Chinedum Nwali, the Acting Chairman of the party.

They said that Obasi was removed for allegedly violating the party™s constitution and failure to render proper financial accounts. Speaking further, Obasi alleged that Ambassador Ogbuewu has been a bad influence to the party in the state. Since his entry into APGA, he has been causing confusion among members, playing divide and rule politics. œJudging from the height he reached in politics, as a minister, I thought that APGA made a good catch with him, but I’m disappointed he cannot be trusted, he plays politics with bitterness. He has succeeded in destabilizing the party in the state. He has achieved his aim and will soon return to the PDP.

He continued: Can you believe that Ogbuewu told our members during the governorship election that he knew he would not win. He and his group sold out to the PDP. He refused to disburse the funds mapped out for logistics during the election. This is why APGA failed to fly in the elections. He bought a house in Asokoro area of Abuja with the funds given to him by the party for the election. I just want you to know the manner of party man he is, Obasi fumed. Pointblanknews.com gathered there has been no love lost between Obasi and Ogbuewu since the latter defected to APGA and clinched the gubernatorial ticket ahead of more favoured aspirants, who were said to have toiled for the party. A source said the rift became evident during the campaigns as Ogbuewu swore not to have anything to do with Obasi as the chairman of the party in the state. œObasi hardly spoke during the campaigns as he was sidelined in the scheme of things, the source hinted. Pointblanknews.com also learnt that youthful Obasi who was once the Ebonyi Chairman of the Conference of the Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has been the rallying point for the party in the state. He has been a thorn in the flesh of the Gov. Martin Elechi administration suffering several detentions in the police cells, the party source further hinted. Contacted on the telephone by newsmen, Ogbuewu insisted he would not react to gossip. Â œYou want me to react to gossip? Did Obasi say I was at the meeting? That gossip should remain with you people there, he retorted.
