by Our Reporter

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has urged the National Assembly to ensure that an additional state is created in South-East zone on the basis of equality and fairness.

Okorocha who stated this when a committee on State Creation visited him in Government House, Owerri, maintained that an additional state in the South-east would bring the zone at par with other zones in the country.

The governor posited that South-East has been marginalized due to the imbalance in the number of states and urged all the stakeholders in the zone to close ranks to ensure that the project is actualized.

He promised that his administration would offer the necessary support and logistics required in the project, adding that additional state to the zone would largely boost its socio-economic
development.

Okorocha enjoined the Committee to engage relevant stakeholders as well as embark on aggressive sensitization campaign within and outside the south-east zone.

The governor further posited that additional state for the zone could be created from Imo and Anambra for equity and fairness in the South-East zone.
