Be Liberal In Use Of Political Power, ACN Advises Political Leaders

by Our Reporter

The National Publicity Secretary of the ACN, Mr Lai Mohammed, has urged political leaders to be liberal in the use of the political power they control.

Mohammed made the plea  on Tuesday in Ibadan at an interactive programme organised by the Oyo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The ACN spokesman, who called for the “ democratisation of power’’
linked the success of  a nation’s economy to the way political leaders choose to manage power.

“It is not true that some nations are so developed because of their culture, climate or geography.

“They are developed nations  because of the way and manner they have managed their political power.

“When a nation practises a liberal political system, it will automatically have a liberal economy,” he said.

He also urged political leaders  to concentrate on building lasting political institutions and beliefs instead of building personalities.

“People will die, but institutions will live forever,” he said.

Reacting to the inclusion of the opposition in the administration of local councils  in Oyo State, the ACN scribe said it was a step taken in the right direction.

“The governor is the best person to know exactly how he wants to administer his state.

“And believe me; I think we should give kudos to  an ACN governor for running an inclusive government.

“Naturally, some of the ACN members will feel aggrieved, but as of today, Ajimobi is the governor of not just ACN, but the governor of Oyo State,” he said.

Mohammed also addressed issues of  frequent foreign trips made by some governors ostensibly  to woo investors.

“Some of the governors make these trips to canvass for funds and technical support for projects that will benefit their people.

“These trips are far from being honeymoon and although it is too early to see the results, at the end of the day, it will impact positively on the people,” he said.

Mohammed, however, said that to secure the interest  of foreign investors, the nation’s security and infrastructural challenges must be addressed. (NAN)
