Imo State government has debunked rumours making the rounds that it awards contracts without due process.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Owerri. He said that road contracts in the state were awarded after bids and necessary documentations were done.
Offor stated that the clarifications became necessary as a result of rumours making the rounds that the state government issued backdated contract papers to contractors last June.
The Commissioner insisted that it was impossible that a contractor would mobilize to site without documentation. According to him, any one doing contracts for the state government without a contract paper is simply doing charity work.
Any contractor who mobilizes to site without contract papers is a fool. He only wants to do a charity work. The normal procedure of doing contracts is; you bid for a contract and specification for a number of kilometres and price. Parties then sign and award letter to you.
Are you insinuating that there are people who are so stupid and have so much money to waste and can decide to work for free and when the EFCC comes, government runs around to give contract papers?
This sis laughable, infantile and doesn’t follow common sense. Will you go and spend your money like that? Suppose the EFCC did not come, so they will lose their money,†he asked.
Recall that reports have been rife that the Gov. Rochas Okorocha instructs contractors to mobilize to site without documentation.
