As stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) prepare to meet
today, Monday, February 20, in order to discuss the fall out of the Appeal
Court judgement that re-instated Ali Modu Sheriff as the PDP national
chairman, Rep. Sam Onuigbo of Abia state has called for the party to mend
fences and move on.
The member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal
constituency at the House of Representatives made the call while speaking
to newsmen in Abuja.
According to Rep. Onuigbo,”It is in the interest of everyone for us to
sheath our swords and work together for the good of the nation and the
growth of our democracy.”
Rep. Onuigbo noted that the lingering leadership crisis rocking the party
is limiting the party from being an effective opposition.
He affirmed that for democracy to thrive, there must be a vibrant oppostion;
“No plural democracy thrives without good opposition”
He therefore called on the party’s leadership to find a common ground, and
work things out in order to ensure that the party becomes strong enough to
contest and win back the Presidency in 2019.
