Chairman of the 8th National Assembly and President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki has kept to his promise by releasing to the public details of the 2017 budget of the National Assembly.
This is coming two years after he promised Nigerians that the 8th Assembly will operate a transparent system.
Last month, there had been clamours from various quarters particularly on social media that the National Assembly should make details of its budget known as against the usual single line item.
Saraki had promised that the details of the budget will be made public upon passage.
In keeping to his promise, the budget was passed on Thursday and details of the legislative allocation, a 33 page document, has been made public.
The total of the National Assembly’s 2017 budget is N125 billion representing a N10 billion increase against the 2016 budget of N115 billion.
The details reveal that the National Assembly has N6.7 billion for personnel cost, N6.2 billion for overhead costs and N2 billion for capital.
The total money voted to the management of the National Assembly is N14.9 billion.
The Senate has N1.8 billion for personnel costs, N25 billion for overhead costs and N4 billion for capital, receiving a total of N31 billion.
The House of Representatives has N4.9 billion for personnel costs, N39.6 billion for overhead costs and N4.5 billion for capital. The total sum voted for to the lower legislative chamber is N49 billion.
The National Assembly Service Commission has N961 million for personnel cost, N1.1 billion for overhead costs and N309 million for capital, and a total of N2.4 billion.
Public accounts committee of the Senate got N118 million for overhead costs.
