Anambra state,71 suspected criminals have been arrested by the police in
conjunction with other sister agencies.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Mohammed
in a statement in Awka on Saturday, said the suspects were arrested at
various locations in the state.
Command in conjunction with other Sister Security Agencies have
arrested 71 suspected criminals at various locations in the State
by his Excellency the Executive Governor of Anambra State Chief Willie

“We shall deny the criminal elements the opportunity to perpetrate
crimes especially during this ember period,” he said.
According to him, out of the 71 suspects arrested, 41 are cultists, five
fraudsters including two with military camouflage uniforms and one Youth
Corper serving in Delta state.
Mohammed said the suspected cultists were arrested by the Command
Special Anti cult unit in conjunction with Nnamdi Azikiwe University
(UNIZIK), Awka campus anti cult following intelligence report.
He said some of the suspects allegedly abducted one Oledimma Macdowal
and defrauded him of N1.2 million.
He said among the remaining 25 suspects, three are child stealing
syndicate while twenty two others were arrested at various black spots
and criminal hideouts in the state.
“The operation is still ongoing until all the criminals in the state
relocate or refrain from criminal activities.
Mohammed said all cases were under investigation after which suspects
would be charged to court for prosecution.
Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, John Abang, appreciate the
continuous supports by the Anambra citizens towards providing useful
information to the police.
“The CP further assured the public that the Command will not relent in
it’s efforts towards providing safety and security in the state,”
Mohammed said.
