A member representing Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo federal
constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Azubogu, has
decried the level of destruction in the community following the recent
clash between men of the Nigeria Police and members of the Indigenous
People of Biafra, IPOB.
Azubogu who visited the community with top members of his constituency
inspected the home of IPOB lawyer, Barr Ifeanyi Ejiofor, leadership of
the Oraifite town Union and the police area command, which lost two
personnel in the clash.
He condemned the violent conflict that took place in Oraifite while
describing damages that emanated from the conflict as hideous.
Azubogu, called for calm while insisting that only a thorough
investigation will guide the law in the issue.
He also commiserated with the Anambra State Police Command on the death
of two of their personnel in the conflict.
He said, “I am shocked at the level of damage of lives and properties
brought about by the conflict and I urge vigilance on all fronts to
forestall further reprisal, while authorities continue with
Investigations.”
Azubogu who later visited Barr Ejiofor’s country home at Umunakwa,
Oraifite where he was taken around the deserted compound and adjoining
houses razed down at the heat of the conflict, lamented that the
situation has halted economic activities in the area.
According to him, It is regrettable that the incident happened within a
constituency known for peace. The people of Oraifite are not known for
stories like this and this brings us to my call for a thorough
investigation ” Azubogu said.
