Commissioner Decries Arbitrary Adjustment Of Teachers’ Salaries In Delta

by Our Reporter

Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, the Delta Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, has warned Secretaries of Local Education Authority (LEA) to desist from illegal and arbitrary adjustment of salaries of primary school teachers.

He gave the warning in Asaba on Tuesday at a meeting with LEA Secretaries, Heads of Personnel Management and Accountants of Local Government Councils and the management of State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Muoboghare said the adjustment was criminal and announced that the ministry would sanction anyone found engaging in the unwholesome act.

He said that adjustment of salaries in public service had a procedure and cautioned the secretaries to adhere to the regulations.

The Commissioner advised the secretaries and the SUBEB management to be diligent in the discharge of their duties and ensure proper documentation of official matters.

Muoboghare also directed the LEA scribes to ensure that teachers in their areas were evenly distributed to schools.

He said it was unacceptable for a school to have surplus of teachers while those in the rural areas were lacking.

He ordered that all political aides to local government chairmen, who were posted to schools with the connivance of the local authority secretaries, be sent back to their councils immediately.

According to him, the services of such persons are not needed in the schools.
Muoboghare called for harmonious relationship between the office of Chief Inspectors of Education and the LEAs, pointing out that both units were established to promote effective education system.

The SUBEB Chairman, Chief Patricia Ejeteh, said the meeting was convened at the instance of the commissioner to sort out issues militating against education field offices in the state.

She appealed to members of staff of agencies and departments in the ministry to be conscientious in their discharge of their duties to attain greater standard of education. (NAN)
