Spain bounced back in style from their opening Group H setback against Cape Verde, producing a commanding performance to sweep aside Saudi Arabia 4–0 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

From the opening whistle, Spain asserted their authority, monopolising possession and pinning Saudi Arabia deep inside their own half with slick passing, intelligent movement and relentless pressing.

Their early dominance was rewarded within the first 10 minutes when teenage star Lamine Yamal opened the scoring. The winger capped a flowing team move with a clinical finish after Spain carved open the Saudi defence.

Saudi Arabia struggled to cope with Spain’s intensity, particularly in midfield, where repeated turnovers allowed La Roja to launch wave after wave of attacks.

Spain doubled their advantage midway through the first half through Mikel Oyarzabal, who was left unmarked inside the penalty area and calmly slotted home after another incisive attacking move.

Oyarzabal struck again before the break, punishing further defensive lapses to make it 3–0 and effectively put the contest beyond Saudi Arabia before halftime.

Despite holding a comfortable lead, Spain showed no signs of easing off after the restart. They continued to control the tempo, circulating possession with confidence while denying Saudi Arabia any sustained attacking opportunities.

The Asian side attempted to respond and enjoyed brief spells of possession, but Spain’s well-organised defensive structure ensured they rarely threatened the goal.

Spain’s dominance was eventually rewarded with a fourth goal when sustained pressure forced a defensive error, resulting in an own goal that completed a miserable evening for Saudi Arabia.

The comprehensive victory revitalises Spain’s World Cup campaign and underlines their credentials as serious contenders, with Yamal’s influential display providing another reminder of the teenager’s growing importance to the national team. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia will need a swift response to keep their hopes of progressing from Group H alive.
