The Hakeem Enatto Foundation (HEF) has called on the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Irrua Specialist Hospital Irrua Edo State, Prof. Reuben Eifediyi to resign immediately over alleged poor management of the medical facility.
Addressing newsmen in Benin city the Edo state capital, the Executive Director of HEF , Bar. Hakeem Enatto, lamented the poor management acumen of Prof. Reuben and the heavy consequences of his lame leadership.
He threatened legal action should the CMD stays put as the facility’s number one man.
“I want to call on the Minister of Health and Social welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate to prevail on the CMD of Irrua specialist Hospital to resign immediately. We implore the Minister to outrightly sack him if he ignores his resignation call.
His offenses are gross misconduct, inefficiency and outright negligence .
” The way he has managed the hospital has led to massive lose of patients that ought not to have died”
The CMD, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was appointed precisely on the 26th day of February, 2024 by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
According to Bar. Enatto, over 36 premature babies died within three days in the hospital’s incubator as a result of power failure.
“Our concerns at HEF are: How can Irrua specialist Hospital not have back up power supply? Was money budgeted for this?
“When you do not have what it takes to keep or care for such babies, why admit them in the first place? Is it to deliberately allow the babies to die after collecting money from their parents?
“If the hospital’s incubators are not working or simply have no guaranteed power supply, why admit them into the incubators leaving them to cruel fate?
“Is it that you cannot afford a power generating set , solar power system or inverters?”
He continues, “Were the babies used for some kind of experiment?
“Mr CMD, why would you allow such bizarre thing to happen in a federal government renowned health facility?
“I know of an eye witness who lost his twin babies at the hospital even though he was able to get the hospital a private generator hired by him. There are so many
whose names I cannot mention here. They all lost their premature babies.
“From the above narrative, it could be concluded that the CMD, has no capacity or the knowhow to run such an important health facility. We therefore demand his immediate resignation or sack. By all means , he should be relieved of his duties as CMD Irrua Specialist Hospital.”
The Foundation also reckoned that the CMD
abdicated his duties because, all attempts made to reach him or any other doctor via their hospital telephone number” has proved abortive. The number , displayed below is supposed to be the official number of the hospital (0706 048. 3732)
“We at HEF would wish to categorically state that if nothing is done fast by the Government, we shall have no choice other than take legal action against the CMD and any other body or authority in Irrua specialist Hospital mentioned in this unacceptable conduct.”
