The coalition of opposition political leaders seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, distancing itself from the yet-to-be-registered All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
Addressing journalists after a high-level caucus meeting in Abuja on Thursday, the coalition’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the decision was one of the key resolutions reached by party stakeholders.
The ADC also urged prominent members of the coalition, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to resign from their respective parties and fully align with the new platform.
The meeting was attended by influential figures such as ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi.
Abdullahi disclosed that the coalition had resolved all issues regarding ADA, stressing
“The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association.”
On the 2027 presidential race, he said all aspirants within the coalition had pledged to support whoever emerges as the ADC’s flagbearer through its primaries.
He added that the National Working Committee (NWC) would soon announce the timetable for primaries in Osun and Ekiti States ahead of their off-cycle governorship elections.
