A 43-year-old British-Nigerian businessman, Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, a social media influencer and associate of Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has died following a penis enlargement procedure he underwent during a luxury trip to Thailand with his wife, Danielle Allen.
Evidence presented at an inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court showed that Ubiribo had 40ml of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine injected into his penis at an unnamed clinic in Thailand in March.
The cosmetic procedure was subsequently linked to a fatal pulmonary embolism.
Following the treatment, Ubiribo and his wife reportedly returned to their Marriott hotel in Bangkok, where they went for a massage.
He later complained of chest pain and collapsed twice before being taken to Sukhumvit Hospital.
Although he was initially conscious, his condition deteriorated and he subsequently lost consciousness before doctors could carry out a recommended CT scan.
Medical personnel diagnosed him with a pulmonary embolism and transferred him to intensive care, where they reportedly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for more than 100 minutes.
Ubiribo eventually died in the early hours of March 6.
A postmortem examination conducted in the United Kingdom later found cellular material in his lungs that was consistent with the hyaluronic acid used during the cosmetic procedure.
Following evidence presented during the inquest, Coroner Jean Harkin concluded that the cosmetic treatment had caused the pulmonary embolism that resulted in Ubiribo’s death.
Ubiribo, who was also known as Denisi or Ego, was well known in the Nigerian entertainment and social circles and was described as an ally of Davido.
