The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections and unveiled its new national secretariat in Abuja.
At the inauguration on Monday, the party adopted resolutions of its National Electoral Committee (NEC), declaring its readiness to take over governance at the highest level of the country’s administration.
The National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, said the party had, despite its short existence, complied with all the requirements of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and produced candidates for various elective positions, including what he described as the best presidential candidate.
“We are on a rescue mission; it is either now or never. This is not the time for doubters. We will succeed, we are taking over,” he said.
Zuwoghe said the party was committed to building a generational political movement, stressing the need to bring more young people into the party and prepare them to take up leadership positions in governance.
In his address, the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, announced the adoption of the resolutions.
The party’s financial committee disclosed that it had raised N8.4 billion, out of which more than N2 billion was spent on organising the national primaries and establishing the national secretariat. It put the remaining balance at approximately N6 billion.
Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District, commended the party’s leadership for voluntarily presenting its financial statement without being prompted.
He described the gesture as unprecedented and praised the leadership for its transparency.
The party’s new secretariat, located in the Jabi district of Abuja, was jointly opened by its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The party also presented certificates of nomination to its candidates for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
