In a bid to enhance the evacuation refuse in Aba, Gov. Theodore Orji has commissioned a mobile 30 ton garbage compactor and 150 refuse bins for the Aba zone of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency(ASEPA).

Other items commissioned include a Keke power pack, 3 Innoson swing 7ton and 20ton buckets.

He lamented the indiscriminate dumping of refuse by some residents of the city and expressed optimism that the items would improve the work of the agency.

“The buckets and the mobile compactor will complement the equipment the agency. The 150 liters refuse bins were going to be put on streets and corporate offices to assist ASEPA in the management of waste in Aba and its environs.

In his speech, Ikpeazu expressed gratitude to the governor for his support to the agency. “The governor promised to come to the aid of ASEPA with some equipment as the state resources permits. We are grateful to him and also thank God and pledged on behalf of ASEPA Aba that we are going to put these equipments into good use as we continue to strengthen our logistics base.

“We promise Aba people that we will never relapse to the old days where refuse will be an issue here. By December this year, going by the stride of his Excellency and his support, I assure Aba people that the refuse problem will be history.”

He called on the residents of the state to dispose refuse only at designated places and not wait until the state’s monthly sanitation exercise before di-silting their drainages.
