Jonathan nominates Bulkachuwa as President Court of Appeal

President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday in Abuja forwarded the name of
Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa as President of the Court of Appeal.

In a letter addressed to Senate President, Jonathan said the nomination
was in conformity with the 1999 Constitution  as amended.

The letter was read by Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who
presided over plenary
If confirmed, Bulkachuwa would be the first female President of the Court
of Appeal.

It would be recalled Bulkachuwa has been holding the position in acting
capacity since Novemeber 2012.

Jonathan on Wednesday also forwarded the name of Mr Shettima Gana for
confirmation and reappointment into the Revenue Mobilsation, Allocation
and Fiscal Commission.

This was also contained in a letter sent to the Senate by the president.

The president noted in the letter that the commission was  one of the
executive bodies established under Section 153(1) of the 1999
Constitution.

“By the provision of Part 1(N) of the third schedule of the constitution,
the commission shall comprise a chairman and one member from each state of
the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“I have therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by Section
154(1) of the 1999 constitution decided to re-appoint Gana as a member of
the commission,’’ the letter read.

Jonathan also forwarded the Nigerian Metallurgical Industry Bill 2014 and
the Nigeria Fertilizer Bill 2014 to the Senate for consideration and
passage into law.

The President expressed optimism that the requests would receive the usual
expeditious consideration and approval of members of the Senate. (NAN)
