Former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, has denied trying to hijack the ruling party from anyone.
Pointblanknews.com gathered that two power blocs led by Atiku and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu are engaged in a fierce battle over control of party structure.
It is also believed that Atiku who is also interested the post of chairman Board of Trustee, has former chairman, Bisi Akande to contend with .
It was learnt that Akande was being backed by Tinubu, who is not happy with Atiku’s role in the National Assembly leadership elections.
The struggle for the chairmanship of the APC’s BOT, investigations revealed, became intense following the National Assembly leadership elections on June 9.
Atiku was reported to have supported Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, during the elections.
Atiku is also believed to be eyeing the party’s presidential ticket come 2019, if President Muhammadu Buhari steps aside. He is reportedly romancing Ex Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio as potential running mate.
In a press statement released by his media office in Abuja on Sunday, 21 June and signed by Mazi Paul Ibe, the Turaki Adamawa restated his unalloyed commitment to the Buhari administration and pledged to back this commitment with all of the assets at his disposal.
The statement exonerated Atiku Abubakar of the purported hijack of the party and the National Assembly towards 2019 as figment of the imagination of those promoting it and asked Nigerians to ignore all such insinuation.
He notes that the recent outcomes of the National Assembly election contrary to insinuations are products of interplay of politics which is itself in constant motion.
