ORTOM TO BAUCHI GOV: ‘YOU’RE AMONG FULANI TERRORISTS TERRORISING NIGERIA’

by Our Reporter
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said he is forced to believe that his counterpart from Bauchi State, Mohammed Bala, is a member of Fulani terrorists terrorising Nigeria.

He spoke at a press conference held at the new banquet hall of Benue Government House, Makurdi, on Monday.

Ortom was reacting to a statement by Mohammed alleging that he was creating a bad media campaign against the Fulani ethnic stock. Mohammed said that the alleged act by Ortom had made crises involving herdsmen and farmers worse, adding that the Benue State governor had been criminalising the entire Fulani ethnic stock across the country.

But in his response, Ortom said, “Since he (Mohammed) has chosen to vilify and intimidate me. I am compelled to think that he is one of the Fulani terrorists terrorising this country.

“Why did I say so? This is the same governor who took an oath of office to protect the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The constitution does not give room to allow foreign armed Fulani herdsmen, Tiv people or Yoruba or any ethnic groups to come in and to carry arms but the Bauchi governor said that every Fulani man is a global man so he could go anywhere at any time.

“It is quite disappointing to hear a governor who took an oath of office say that. Maybe he should go back and rehearse the oath of office he took whether allowing foreign Fulani terrorists to come to Nigeria protects the institution of Nigeria.”

Also recalling how Mohammed recently said that Fulani herdsmen carry AK-47 for self-defence, Ortom said, “Even Dane guns are licensed, how much more weapons like AK-47, AK-49 and several other sophisticated weapons.”

On another comment by the Bauchi State governor that Fulani herdsmen can occupy any piece of land anywhere including forest reserves, Ortom argued, “The land use act permits governors to have the sole legal right. I have the sole authority over lands whether in the forests or anywhere.

“He (Mohammed) should go back and read the land use act. As governor in your state, you hold the land on behalf of the people.”
