Sugar, Cement, Flour: No plans to hike prices of commodities, says BUA

by Our Reporter
The Major dealers of BUA Group products in Kano state have assured that
the company has promised that it will not increase the prices of its
products during Ramadan fasting period.

BUA Group is one of the leading companies that produces food items such
as flour, rice, sugar, pasta, among others.

Addressing journalists in Kano on Monday, one of the major dealers of
the BUA products in northern Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammadu Adakawa assured
that the company had vowed that it would not add a kobo on its existing
process.

According to him, the major dealers of the company had met with the
Chairman of BUA Group, Abdulsamad Isyaku Rabiu and appealed to him not
to increase the prices of his products due to the economic hardship in
the country.

He added that the Chairman had given them assurance that he would not
increase the prices of all his products from now till sallah period and
beyond.

“He also assured that there will be mass supply of his products to Kano
state in order to make them available in the markets.

“That will make the food to be available and affordable to people,”
Adakawa said.

He lamented that some companies, because Ramadan season is approaching,
had already increased N1,500 and N1,700 on a 50kg bag of sugar, assuring
that people will not experience such increase in BUA products.

“Some companies have already increased a 50kg bag of sugar by N1,500 and
N1,700. From N20,000, a bag of sugar of other companies, not BUA, is
N22,500 or N22,700.

“But, BUA has assured to us that he will not increase his prices and
assured us of mass supply of his products,” he said.

Adakawa called on other dealers and retailers not to use the opportunity
to increase the price on their customers, adding that they should
reflect the good gesture by Abdulsamad on their customers.
